The Hermitage of Saint Cedd

The Hermitage of Saint Cedd is an Orthodox Hermitage in an inner city suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
The Hermitage is, in the Orthodox tradition, a hesychasterion, a Hermitage established with the blessing of the Bishop but owned by the resident of the Hermitage. The Hermitage is also a stavropegial institution, a term usually used in reference to a Monastery which falls directly under the jurisdiction (omophorion) of the Primate of a Church rather than under the local Diocesan Bishop. The Hermitage and the Hermit are under the canonical jurisdiction of His Eminence, Seraphim, Metropolitan Archbishop of the Holy Metropolis of Glastonbury and Primate of the British Orthodox Church within the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria. The Hermitage receives no external financial support. In addition to living the traditional life of a Hermit, the Hermit undertakes research and writing, offers academic mentoring and spiritual guidance (mainly by e-mail or via the internet), and publishes a website promoting knowledge of the spiritual tradition of the Desert Fathers [] He is an authority on Orthodox Canon Law and serves as Chancellor of the British Orthodox Church. The Hermitage does not offer public liturgical services.
