Rosalind Madeleine Maria Waters: RIP

Of your charity, pray for the repose of the soul of Rosalind Madeleine Maria Waters (nee Phillips)(born 8 December, 1983 at Hastings, New Zealand; died on 29 October, 2013, at Sydney, Australia), wife of Edward Waters, who passed from this mortal life on Tuesday October 29 at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (Sydney), after suffering from acute myeloid leukaemia since January.

A Requiem Mass for the repose of her soul was celebrated on Saturday November 2. Edward’s family, academic colleagues from the University of Notre Dame, friends and members of the Russian Orthodox parish at Blacktown (including the parish Priest) and the Russian Orthodox Cathedral at Strathfield, met at The Hermitage that morning and walked to the Chapel of the Maternal Heart of Mary at Lewisham for the solemn (Latin) sung Requiem Mass. The Church was packed.

Then Edward’s family, academic colleagues, friends and Russian Orthodox parishioners came back to The Hermitage for a buffet lunch. It was a most enjoyable, relaxing and celebratory occasion (as it should have been): diverse people mingling, lots of laughter, many happy memories of Rosalind. We honoured Rosalind’s life with good food and drink, lively conversation, and a vibrant spirit of friendship. Huge bouquets of flowers had been delivered to The Hermitage, and they were displayed with a beautiful photograph of Rosalind in the midst of them with a lighted prayer vigil lamp in front of it.

The mortal remains of Rosalind were interred last Monday morning at Rookwood Necropolis (Sydney). Two Russian Orthodox Priests and I walked with Edward as the coffin was carried to the grave where Fr Duncan Wong FSSP, assisted by Fr Damonn Sypher FSSP, of the traditional Latin Parish of the Material Heart of Mary in Lewisham, conducted the Roman Rite of Christian Burial. The Rite was chanted in Latin and accompanied by the choir of which Rosalind had been director. Following the service, the Waters and Phillips families and their friends joined the Russian Orthodox Priests for refreshments at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Strathfield, where Edward and Rosalind had been joined in Holy Matrimony on 6 March this year. Edward’s family then came to The Hermitage for lunch.

May Rosalind rest in peace, and awaken to a joyful Resurrection.

Memory Eternal! Memory Eternal! Memory Eternal!
